Meet the Bottle Gods

A pantheon of approachably eldritch gods

I always loved the idea of gods of small things. Japanese kami, Jemisen’s godlings, the god of Arepo. The Divine is infinitely vast and unknowable, making it almost tautologically impossible to understand. So I like the idea of understanding it through smaller avatars that offer a more intimate connection on a scale we can understand. Playing with that idea, I constructed an entire pantheon of deities with oddly specific portfolios. A collection of gods OF small things that ARE small things.

As the title suggests, I’ve aimed to make them look otherworldly, ancient, and even questionably conscious, yet not off-putting. I wanted to make them look like something that’s been sat for eons right where it was when when life first crawled out of the ocean, but would be more than happy for you to sit and chat a while. They’re constructed of simple shapes and understated, earthy colors, but still aim to capture a spark of something larger.
