Roll for Teapot

Inspired by the popular ‘Roll for Sandwich’ social media series, I decided to make a teapot generation system based on the concept of ‘Rolling a Character’ in tabletop roleplaying games. If you’re unfamiliar with the concept, you roll dice to randomly determine attributes of the character you’re going to play. In a tabletop game, this might mean rolling one dice for your characters religion, another for their character class, another for their strength attribute, etc. In this series, I decided to see what sorts of teapots could be generated from random dice rolls, and got some interesting results.

The rules are a little odd to get your head around if you’ve never played a tabletop RPG, but pretty straightforward once you understand it. Basically, for each table in the set, you roll the appropriate sized dice for the table, note the result, and then move on to the next. Once you’re done, take all the results and try to turn it into a cohesive pot. Some rules require extra rolls (like rolling a 1 on the Body Shape table requires you to roll again on the ‘Weird Shapes’ table), or might affect how many times you roll for other table (rolling a 5, 6, or 7 on the ‘Glaze type’ table would require you to roll twice on the ‘Glaze’ table, but on a 1 you’d skip it entirely).
